Ruined Rural Economy - Lack of Commitment Part -14

 "Present team of leaders and bureaucrat is not only blind to the realities of ever increasing suicide cases of Farmers; but also

determined to destroy Indian Agro Industry in totality"

On 26 July 2007, nine farmers in Vidharb area of India had committed suicide when they could not meet the ever increasing pressure of life, but has their suicide made any difference on any Indian economist, present leadership either at State or Centre or any bureaucrats? I strongly feel none. The present Economic Think Tank (ETT) of Man Mohan - P Chidambaram and M Ahlluwalia (MM-PC-MA) supported by a few industrialists have paved the way of total destruction of Indian Agro Sectors. Their short sighted policies of setting up large Special Economic Zones (SEZ) have nearly shrunk over half a percent of agricultural land. If the present Congress Government's foreign way of thinking tirade against Agro Farming Sector (AFS) continued unabated, the days are not far off when hungry people would even dig out their graves to seek justice. I am surprise as to why Indian leadership is determined to destroy our AFS.

Ruined Rural Economy - Lack of Commitment Part -14

When present Prime Minister became the governor of Reserve Bank of India, Sri Jagan Nath BA, a renowned social worker of yesteryears village Piplia, district US Nagar Uttrakhand had said quote "The present system of managing Indian rupee would make India an Economic slave if we continued to follow his policies. He predicted the following long term bad effect on India:

· One; India would indulge in large borrowings, thus, getting trapped in Debt Repay Rotational Economy (DRRE). He explained that to please the Western donors, the de-evaluation of rupee would set a chain of borrowing primarily to repay old loans interests and principles.

· Two; it would encourage industry over agriculture, thus, paving the way of reducing cultivated land. During my survey of last five years, I have observed that nearly 75% of land holding around my village has been taken away by the government and handed over to corrupt and cunning industrials who never constructed any factory for over seven years but swallowed all the subsidy offered by government. The Congress Government's forced transfer policy of land had left many families homeless.

· Three; the Western Approach of Economic Development (WAED) through setting up SEZ is now creating ripples all over country and leaving large number of farmers landless.

· Four; policy would create large reserve of unemployed youths, workless farmers and poor peasantry.

· Five; large unemployment would in turn criminalize the society. The rapid pace of criminalization would create unsafe and insecure situation in every village, metros and cities.

The overall impact of Congress led government has totally crippled Indian Agro

and Farming Sector (IAFS) under trio so called innovative economic policies. The role of other ruling alliances such as CPI, CPI (M) and many others is equally opportunist. These party's leaders throat get soar while roaring for a poor man cause; but actually they have become so much attached to the power chair that all of them had become mute, deaf and dumb. None of them other than making a few customary remarks is raising the issue of farmer's suicide at national levels. The role of pro farmer's political parties such as Bhartya Janta Party (BJP), Bhartya Kisan Union (BKU) is equally skeptical about their support. Why the present government is not acting to revive failing IAFS?

I, on behalf of all Indian farmers, would ask the government and our so called insensitive Agricultural Minister as to:-

· Why over 30 lakh tons of grain is being imported at rupees 1100 a quintal and above from abroad?

· Why the same leadership is not ready to pay country's farmers higher prices? It is all done under a well conceived long term strategy to destroy Indian farming. I extent my heartiest sympathies for Asian and Indian farmers who despite of total apathy are feeding over 50% population. The final cost of imported wheat is actually turns out to be nearly rupees 1700 to 1900 when it reached the consumer from Public Distribution Outlets?

· Why over hundred of tons of wheat is rotting in ports and no one is blamed for such lapses. First Indian leadership imports poor quality wheat grain filled with new type of weed and waste wild seeds and later they blame each other?

· Why our Agricultural Minister is not making any attempts to revive IAS?

· Why again and again large cultivated areas are being given to industrial units?

· Why Indian farmers are considered by the present Congress government is insensitive to

The present Congress headed government of ETT and other ministers who have

nothing to do with any one. Their only aim is to please industrial houses and raise funds for their political gimmicks. I really feel that there is some long term strategy of present ruling alliances to destroy aborigine Indian through various policies. The rising inflation of 4.71% as on July 28, 2007 in India is alarming for the Common Ordinary Man (COM) on streets. The rising prices of essential commodities have made a COM life miserable. The present wage scale is only sufficient for a COM to only have one time meal.

How COM cares for his family is too hoot to the government; and the policy makers? Over rupees 70 a kilogram of pulse has also broken the backbone of middle class and salary people. Though over 80% officials make up their daily requirements through sleaze but real sufferer are defence, police and paramilitary forces personnel.

There is a need for Indian and Asian ETT to study and draft policies favouring natives and not foreigners. What I perceive that to increase the pace of Industrial development, the government has forgotten that over 80% Indians and 90% Asian survive on Agro Economy. These peasants might not be rich but they carry on surviving from generation to generations on a small piece of land. They make a very valuable contribution by producing surplus food grains for others. Under the myth of development, most of the Asian government's are destroying large cultivated land masses.

I suggest that World Bank and Asian Development Bank have to ascertain the magnitude of the problem to be faced by the world as a whole. Why crime is so high in the West can be well ascertained from the fact that 20% people control wealth and 80% control meager resources for survival. Large colonies of slums and ghettos in every metro speak about the true living standard of a nation. The life of American ghettos is far from happy.

Despite my best efforts through a series of articles on the issue to revive Indian rural and agro sector, the present Congress and her allied government is determined to dig the last nails on farmers coffin. Why ETT and MM-PC-AS have not understood that over 11% Indians are leaving to survive and balance 89% is surviving to live. These 89% includes all COM, farmers, people in slums and ghettos and hilly peasantry. If at all India and Asia has to prosper these governments has to:-

· One; redefine their priorities of development;

· Two; make industrial development base to increase agro produce;

· Three; do not create SEZ at the altars of farmers like Nandigram;

· Four; first government should make an endeavor to feed hungry and needy;

· Five; IAS renaissance would provide employment to large section of people where as high technology oriented industries create more unemployment than they employ;

· Six; Agricultural minister should look towards farmers plight than remaining busy to support Indian Cricket team which has betrayed the Nation during world cup 2007; and

· Seven; Make an attempt to bring another 6% of uncultivated land under cultivation through Rain Water Ground Charging and Retaining techniques.

I have tried to analyze long term effects of the present Anti-Farmers and Agro

Sector (AFAS) economic policies of Congress government; which has caused tremendous financial stress on every COM. I hope that we are able to overcome the present crisis and wake up to revive IAFS. There is immense potential in Asian and Indian nations to bring in prosperity. Our ETT must remember that no country can merely show development without support of Agro and Farming Sector (AFS). I would analyze the effect of so called development, inflation and rising price hikes on a commoner.
